The Secret of Eternal Youth

There is a fairly well-known saying that -

“we don’t stop playing because we grow old;
we grow old because we stop playing.”

How true that is.  When we are young, hopefully we play, have fun, express our creativity but somehow as we get older, things get serious, stressful or just plain dull.  Sadly when life gets serious, stressful and dull, we tend to go the same way.  We don’t have time to play, let alone the inclination, energy or motivation.  The less we play, the less we feel like playing and this just takes us further away from our youth.

The Secret of Eternal Youth, in my view is NOT the latest miracle vitamin, mineral drink or superfood.  It’s certainly not cosmetic surgery, expensive lotions and potions to put on your face or an exercise regime that nearly kills you.  I’m not against any of the above measures by any means – everything has its place.  Good nutrition and moderate exercise in particular are a common sense way to take responsibility for improving and maintaining our health.

But for me, the way to stay feeling young is to have some young fun.  Play.  Create.  Glue and Stick.  Draw, paint, chalk.  Whatever floats your boat.  Just give your mind a break from all the serious stuff.  On holiday, I build sand castles.  When it snows, I make a snowman.  Go on, give it a go, make a snowman before the snow melts.  I bet you feel younger for it!
