Be a hero! Save a Life! Feel Good about Yourself!

I gave blood today, as I do three times a year.  It only takes half an hour out of my day, which is nothing given that it has the potential to contribute to saving a life.

OK, my title for this post is a bit dramatic, but true nevertheless.  Fire-fighters and paramedics are (rightly) referred to as heroes when they save lives.  We can be heroes in our own way with just a little effort 3 times a year.

For those who haven't given blood before, it's very straightforward, - a little prick to the middle finger to check you're well enough to donate, then lay down, quick scratch in the crook of your elbow and chill out for 10 to 20 mins (the bigger your veins, the quicker it tends to flow). That's all there is too it - you're a hero.

What's more, you get free tea / coffee and biscuits and a "thank you for your donation" from the staff.  That's sold it to you hasn't it?!

Go on, give blood - help them stock up - you never know when you or a loved one might need a drop.
